THE STUDENTS and People's Network for Thailand's Reform (STR) yesterday stormed into the Department of Special Investigation office on Chaeng Wattana Road in protest against the agency's freezing the assets of 38 protest leaders.
Hundreds of police have been deployed from Sing Buri and Saraburi to keep order around the DSI compound. They carried shields and batons and used metal barricades to block the buildings to prevent protesters from breaking inside.
DSI officials have taken away documents and placed them in other buildings for fear that the protesters would take them. They also turned off their communication devices in case the protestors broke in and tried to use them.
STR adviser Nitithorn Lamlua instructed 100 women to line up and take hold of the police’s shields and batons. He said the group came to the DSI to search for documents on cases against them.
They used plastic bags to cover the security cameras and stormed into the second and third floors of the building. However, the leaders instructed the protesters to leave after they were unable to enter any of the rooms, which were firmly locked.
