Prem urges Thais to heed HM's speech

Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda yesterday urged Thais to heed His Majesty the King's New Year speech about bringing love and unity to the country.

Prem was speaking to reporters after senior police and military officers, along with leading businesspeople, visited him on the occasion of the New Year.

Prem said His Majesty's speech was short but conveyed a lot of meaning.

"To know its meaning, we must read the speech several times. If everyone reads the speech and understands it, they will at least know how to bring about love and unity among Thais," Prem said. "I would like to tell all Thais that they should heed and implement what was said in the speech."

Prem declined to comment when asked whether he was concerned about the current political situation. "That's all I wanted to say," he said.

Among Prem's New Year well-wishers were caretaker Deputy Defence Minister General Yutthasak Sasiprapha, National Police chief Pol General Adul Saengsingkaew, Deputy Army chief General Udomdej Sitabutr, and former Army chief General Anupong Paochinda.
