Police will seek the court's permission to detain rally leader, Sonthiyarn Chuenruethai-naitham, on charges of treason, instigating chaos in the country and supporting people to violate the laws, Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdith sa

Sonthiyarn was arrested on Tuesday for defying the state of emergency and is to be freed on temporary basis on Monday. He is among 19 rally leaders for whom arrest warrants have been issued for treasons, instigating chaos and supporting people to defy the laws.

Tarit said an investigative team will on Saturday ask for a court order to detain Sonthiyarn. The law allows police to detain a suspect for a maximum of 84 days and police are required to request for an extension every 12 days.
