The Thai Foreign Ministry yesterday rejected a report that fugitive former Pheu Thai leader Charupong Ruengsuwan had met the French foreign minister.
Sek Wannamethee, spokesman for the Thai ministry, said it had checked the report with its French counterpart, which said it knew nothing about such a meeting.
“The French authorities told us that they did not have any information about the meeting and knew nothing about it,” the spokesman said.
Charupong is now secretary-general of the Organisation of Free Thais for Human Rights and Dignity, an anti-coup movement in exile. He set up the organisation in a foreign country after defying the junta’s summons and fleeing the country.
