Most Thais doubt transparency
Most Thais have cast doubt over the transparency of the government's handling in the Bt2 trillion infrastructure investment, according to a poll.
Abac Poll showed that 79.2 per cent of the respondents showed no confidence that the money would be transparently spent.
The poll, conducted during September 10-21, drew opinions from 2,417 respondents in 17 provinces.
72.8 per cent also believed that some business enterprises will benefit the most from the investment. 70.9 per cent said beneficiaries will be politicians - ministers and their advisors. Only 30.1 per cent believed that the benefits will fall to the general public.
The majority, 87.1 per cent, urged the government to explain more on the investment process to clear the public doubts.
Asked what type of investment that would benefit the public the most, 43.1 per cent suggested sustainability-related projects; 19.8 per cent education, 19.4 per cent public health, 6.3 per cent public utilities, and 4.9 per cent crime suppression.
