Hundreds of schools in Bangkok have cancelled classes on Monday as demonstrators led by the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) plan to "shut down" the capital.

The Office of the Private Education Commission has announced that all 207 Bangkok schools under its supervision will suspend classes on Monday.

"After that, we will assess the situation on a day-by-day basis," the office's secretary general Bundit Sriputtangul said yesterday.

The Education Ministry will also close 245 of its Bangkok-schools on Monday.

According to caretaker Education Minister Chaturon Chaisang, more than 200,000 teachers and students will be affected.
