Mass rally won't change Thai politics: Poll

Nearly half of Thais expect no change in Thai politics after the December 9 mass rally, according to Dusit Poll.

Some 42.42 per cent of the 1,588 respondents asked during December 6-7 said that the mass rally would bring no change to Thai politics because of the bipolar political system and lack of moral ethics among politicians.

Some 27.76 per cent saw no solution to exit the political mess.

Only 29.82 per cent believed that it would bring about improvement because of protesters’ ultimatum.

The majority also expressed concerns, 36.46 per cent fearing prolonged and violent protests. 30.39 urged all to come to their senses, as Thais should not fight against one another. 19.34 per cent said they would closely monitor the situation. 13.81 per cent urged protesters to conduct their rally in a constructive manner for the national interests.

Asked what the government should react to the rally, 34.52 per cent said the government should stay calm; 27.92 per cent urged the government not to use forces;

24.87 per cent said the government to closely monitor the situation and take into consideration the protesters’ demands; and 12.69 per cent said it must ensure strict police operations and press freedom.
