The car driven by Chinnarat Kanchanawichien, 45, a native of Lop Buri, was stopped at a police checkpoint in Pathum Thani on Friday. Found on the backseat was an AK-47 rifle, 60 bullets, a M-61 grenade, an RPG, black clothing, a knife, one metal chain and a number of nails.
Aek said Chinnarat wore a green t-shirt saying, “The Army”. He asked police to let him go and offered them Bt100.
Chinnarat told police that he was hired for Bt5,000 to drive the car, which he picked up at Wat Klang Klong Si in Pathum Thani. He was to take it to Rangsit- Nakhon Nayok Road where another driver was to take the car into central Bangkok. He denied any knowledge that the car was carrying military-style weapons.
