Sataporn Maneerat, a four-time member of Parliament from Lamphun - most recently with the Pheu Thai Party - died of cancer and kidney disease yesterday.

After months of treatment, Sataporn passed away at Maharaj Nakorn Hospital in Chiang Mai at 1pm. The bathing ceremony will be held today at San Sai Temple in Lamphun at 3pm.

Sataporn, who was also a provincial red-shirt leader, was a Thai Rak Thai party-list MP before switching to run as a constituency candidate, winning an MP seat in 2005, holding the seat from Lamphun until his death. When he reported as an MP-elect last year, he carried fresh fruit and vegetables such as longan and garlic as a gimmick to urge the new government to boost prices of agricultural goods.
