Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Wednesday held a special cabinet meeting to discuss the Election Commission (EC)'s request for a new round of meetings regarding the draft for the Royal Decree for an election on July 20.
The EC yesterday put on hold the submission of the decree for the July poll, saying it was unprecedented for the decree to say that if the election encounters problems, the government should consult the EC on postponing the ballot. It also sought a meeting with the government on the issue.
The special cabinet meeting, held at office of Defence permanent secretary, was also scheduled to discuss the political situation as the Constitutional Court prepares to rule today on whether to dismiss Yingluck from office in an abuse-of-power case.
The premier will watch live broadcast of the court's ruling at the office.Security around the meeting venue was tight with the army and the police combining forces.
