A high-ranking European Union official Catherine Ashton urged all Thai parties to immediately sort out political differences through a dialogue process.

In a statement released on January 23 by her spokesperson, Ashton, the High Representative for the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, called on all involved to establish without delay "a genuine and inclusive political dialogue process with the aim of delivering concrete results towards reconciliation within Thailand's democratic and constitutional framework".
"The EU as a long-standing friend of Thailand is following the political situation and the growing number of violent incidents in Bangkok with concern. The High Representative condemns any use of force as a political means."
