Dems adopting new strategy

The Democrats have decided to increase the number of their executives to 35 as part of their strategy to win the hearts of grass-roots voters.

Democrat Party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut denied it had copied the structure of the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai party. He said the Democrats upped the number of executives so they could work closely with the people. He said former Democrat Party leader Korn Chatikavanij had refused to accept any post on the new board. But that did not mean others who had left the party to join the People's Democratic Reform Committee could not return as members of the new board.

Korn said on his Facebook page yesterday that he would not accept a position of party executive when the new executive members were elected today.

"I have informed party leader [Abhisit Vejjajiva] of my intention. It will be the first time that I don't hold any executive post since I first joined the party," he wrote. Korn, who quit as deputy in October to fight the amnesty bill, said the campaign was not over yet so it would be inappropriate to resume his post.
