The Democrat Party is preparing to seek police action against a red shirt leader citing the lese majeste law, party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said Wednesday.

Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has assigned the party’s legal team to submit a complaint concerning Wutthipong Kachathamkhun, also known as Ko Tee’s recent interview with a member of the foreign press to caretaker premier Yingluck Shinawatra, deputy premier Chalerm Yoobamrung and the Department of Special Investigation’s chief Tarit Pengdit.

In addition, the legal team will ask the crime suppression police to take legal action against Wuthipong.

Chavanond said the interview reflected Wuthipong’s views of the monarchy as well as the red shirts’ beliefs on the same issues.

Such beliefs were considered a threat to national security, the spokesman said.

Tomorrow, deputy party spokesperson Mallika Boonmeetrakool will submit the petition to Army chief Gen Prayuth Chanocha and ask him to take action against those who defame the monarchy.
