Charupong faces 3 charges over clip against charter

Police have laid three charges against Charupong Ruangsuwan - the fugitive ex-leader of the Pheu Thai Party - after he posted a video clip stating his objections to the provisional constitution.

Deputy national police chief General Somyot Poompanmoung said the Metropolitan Police Bureau, in collaboration with the Technology Crime Suppression Division, laid charges that Charupong violated the orders of the ruling National Council for Peace and Order, committed an act of defamation, and breached the computer-crime law.

Charupong posted a 12-minute clip on his Facebook page on Monday night criticising the provisional charter. Somyot said he had assigned acting Bangkok police chief Lt-General Chakthip Chaijinda to lead the case against former deputy House speaker and red shirt co-leader Apiwan Wiriyachai after an arrest warrant was issued against him for alleged lese majeste.
