Chart Pattana candidates register in Nakhon Ratchasima

Constituency registration in Nakhon Ratchasima for candidates of the former coalition party Chart Pattana is expected to go smoothly, its leader Wannarat Charnnukul announced yesterday.

Wannarat made these remarks at an event to introduce the party's 15 candidates for Nakhon Ratchasima - among them - singer Sunaree Ratchasima, who will run as an MP for the party in Constituency 4.

Wannarat said he anticipated his party would capture more than seven seats in the Northeast province. Chart Pattana chief adviser Suwat Liptapanlop said he was confident the February 2 election would be the best outcome for Thailand, as it indicated the country was still adhering to a democratic process. Suwat said the party was also ready to hold talks with all those concerned in any attempt to end the political crisis - adding that he had decided not to contest the poll. "It would be better for me not to run in the elections and to stand outside the political arena. I can then focus my attention on reform plans," he said.

Meanwhile, Sompong Amorn-vivat, Pheu Thai's election director, said the party was ready to launch its election campaign on New Year's Day. He added that the party would present a roadmap for national reform and fulfil Yingluck Shinawatra's policies.

Election posters have been going up some areas in the capital. Seen on Bang Na-Trat and Sukhumvit roads were posters of Pheu Thai Party featuring caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck. One read "Honour the rule of law to safeguard democracy", while another said "Give Pheu Thai another chance to fulfil our promises."
