Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop urged all parties in Thailand to respect the right of the Thai people to vote on the February 2 elections.
“We're encouraging all parties to resolve their political differences through peaceful and democratic processes and with respect for the rule of law but it is a challenging situation. We're certainly providing our goodwill and support to Thailand as it tries to find ways to settle its political difficulties,” she said, in response to a question by an Australian radio host regarding Sunday’s election in Thailand.
“In particular for the elections on February 2, we are advising Australians to avoid polling places, to avoid political rallies and protest activities, because the situation is still volatile”.
The statement was released by the Embassy today.
