Army chief denies nepotism
Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha on Tuesday denied any favouritism for his younger brother Lt Gen Preecha, who is reportedly tipped for promotion to commander general of the Third Army Area in the mid-year reshuffle next month.
"Preecha has advanced in his military career on his own merit," Prayuth said.Does his brother have to change his family name in order to get the new assignment, he asked his critics. Army posts would be dispensed according to a candidate's qualifications and seniority as well as applicable regulations without any interference from the chief, he said.
The incumbent Fourth Army Area head would recommend his successor in due course, he said.
Speculation is spreading in military corridors as Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat has set next Friday as the deadline for the armed forces branches to complete their list of job rotations.
