Whistling in democracy's graveyard

Re: "Election delay possible", Politics, December 18.

One way the election could be delayed is if "there is an emergency situation ... for example, if there were a national disaster". I thought the election had been called because there had been a national disaster. Runaway populist policies, illegal dam-contract processing, subservient "independent agencies", an assault on the Constitution and a self-serving amnesty bill only halted by citizens coming out on the streets. With a week of holiday, there is barely a month left to an election which will not give representation to the recent peaceful demonstrators as they have no party to vote for and not enough time to form one. Will the EC wait until after the election to red-card the 312 or will Pheu Thai just recruit the MPs who have already volunteered to join the gravy train (as in 2000).

I have a reputation for black humour but this leaves me stumped.
