US bias is towards India
Re: "India rises quietly and steadily", Overdrive, February 22.
I am under the impression that the "China threat" perception is a result of the US news media practising double standards in their selective reports and biased comments, in accordance with their government's policy. The US views China with hostility because it is a communist country by definition (although not 100 per cent in practice), because China's economic and military development is too fast for Washington's comfort, and because China has conflicts with the US in some foreign-policy areas. India, on the other hand, has been a darling to the US because it is democratic, not considered a military threat or competitor, and part of a plan to militarily encircle China.
China, as far as I am able to observe, does not consider the US an enemy but resents Washington's hostile attitude and interference in its internal affairs.
