UN should help probe child murders first

News of caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul attempting to invite UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon to help resolve the political conflict here is very interesting.

Surapong cited last week's deaths of four young children as a reason for his call for Ban's intervention.

Ban should send teams of UN investigators to probe the murders of these four children first. Investigation into these cases by the Thai police seems to have gone nowhere.

Ban should also take every precaution to ensure his impartiality if he decides to take up a mediator role here.
