The coffee is pricey cos Thais are happy to sit there for hours
Ref: "I'd prefer a cheap Starbung", Letters, yesterday.
A Johnsen chided Starbucks for charging ridiculous prices. If I managed the franchise I would do the same and here's why. Thais think it's cool to be seen in Starbucks, so they buy a cup of coffee and stay for four or five hours, playing with an Internet phone, working on a laptop, reading or shooting the breeze. Why not? Nice atmosphere and comfortable seats. Some students use Starbucks for group study. Problem is that management dares not tell them to leave, because it's going to be on the evening news of every channel that Starbucks kicked customers out for no reason (enough trouble with Starbung). Before you chide someone, try putting yourself in their shoes.
