Thais have always thought ill of Indians
Re: "India rises quietly and steadily", Overdrive, February 22.
Thanong Khanthong's column made some good observations and analysis of India's progress in recent years, but I could not judge whether his view of India is positive or negative.
I think you will agree that, in contrast to Chinese or Western people, India and Indians have not been very much liked by Thailand and Thai people at all levels of society, despite their presence in Thailand for a hundred years and having strong cultural connections for many centuries.
Now that India's status in the global community has significantly changed, what is the general Thai opinion about India?
I have came across many articles about India by Western journalists, both positive and negative, but I hardly come across articles in the Thai media about India, either by journalists, academics or commentators from the government or business circles. Please forgive me for my ignorance if there are such articles and I have missed them.
