Thais are fair-minded, not xenophobic

Re: "Anti-govt forces have a new 'bogeyman' - the Western media", Politics, December 25.

Pravit Rojanaphruk was right when he said xenophobia is not a recipe for democracy and equality.

However, when he labelled fellow Thais as xenophobic for feeling that reports about Thailand by some foreign media were biased, he was being unfair.

Not all reports and opinions from the international media about Thailand are correct and to the point.

Democracy is a home-grown process. No two democracies in this world are exactly alike.

Thais have every right to defend their country from unfair criticism.

In my experience as a long-time follower of international media, Thais are fairly broadminded when it comes to criticism from outsiders.

All we ask from them is fairness in their reporting.
