Taxi meters tampered with
Whilst I salute the minority of honest taxi-drivers mentioned by Siam Man in his letter (February 4), I can only say my experience simply confirms the view held by your correspondent Rodney Griffith.
I have lived in Bangkok for six years and on average I take four or five taxis a day. Apart from feigned ignorance of such obscure destinations as Silom and Sathorn roads and the inability to change even the smallest bank notes, my main complaint is the adjusted meter which jumps Bt4 at a time. Siam Man suggests monitoring the meter. I can assure him I do that with hawk eyes and have reached the conclusion that a good number of the taxi meters in this city have been tampered with.
