Suthep only a figurehead for groundswell of anger

Re: "Two sides to Suthep?", Letters, December 21.

Your correspondent Somsak Pola appears to move in a parallel universe. He wonders why Suthep Thaugsuban has chosen this time to organise the protest movement. I would suggest that the final straws for thousands of Thai citizens were the stealthy attempt to pass a blanket amnesty bill that would have enabled Thaksin to return to Thailand a free man and recover his seized ill-gotten assets, the unconstitutional bill to alter the composition of the Senate, and the trillion-baht infrastructure bill that would put Thailand into debt for generations to come. These citizens decided that enough is enough and it's time to rid the country of Thaksin, his family and cronies once and for all.
