Writing from Helsinki, George Redelinghuys reckons there something hypocritical about Suthep’s anti-corruption crusade given that Suthep must have greatly benefited in the past from the system. But who else to lead the crusade against corruption when all politicians are said to be corrupt? Suthep is probably a corruption minnow compared with the Shinawatra clan. The Shinawatras are the 10th richest in Thailand on Forbes’ list. Where do you find Suthep?
But the big difference is that Suthep has admitted corruption is rife and has jumped out of his comfy parliamentary seat to fight it. Isn’t that commendable – isn’t it good when people wake up and turn good? The problem with the people Mr Redelinghuys is apparently siding with is that they do not admit there is corruption – or any injustice at all. Worse, they are totally blind to their own wrongdoings and seem to need the intervention of the court system to tell them what’s right and what’s wrong.
