Strong evidence that Thaksin failed

Re: "Almost all labourers deep in debt", Business, April 25.

The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce survey showing that up to 93.7 per cent of Thai labourers have admitted they are heavily in debt shows that Thaksin Shinawatra's populist policies and other attempts at "enriching the poor" have failed.

Thaksin has only himself to blame for our national economic failure: His parties have dominated politics for more than 10 of the past 12 years, leaving the Democrats at the helm for only two.

This shows Thaksin's "ingenious" plan was nothing but paper.

In reality it has turned the country into an economic laggard - and an even more chronically corrupt society.
