Thaksin Shinawatra has caused so much political anxiety in Thailand in the past two weeks. This was because he wanted to demonstrate to the world he still has power over the Yingluck government - and thus the country.
However, Thaksin’s latest action has also caused his sister Yingluck much hardship in her already wobbly position as our national leader. Her prime ministerial website was hacked and a hate message was pasted on, simply for her speaking nicely of Thaksin at an international meeting on democracy in Mongolia – a speech which most educated Thais regard as untruthful and repulsive.
Hence, Thaksin’s ego may become the cause of his sister’s downfall from now on. It would be better for him to come back and serve his two-year jail term.
Meanwhile, the news of the red shirts of Si Sa Ket blocking the way and preventing Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva from speaking to his party’s supporters shows we are still far from being a democracy.
It also shows Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra as the consummate master of doublespeak, and that all she is capable of doing as our PM is to give her sweetest, most innocent-looking smiles to hide all the wickedness that is going on.
