Red-shirt propaganda doesn't add up

I should like to remind Thida Thavornsret, chairwoman of the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship, that in the last general election in 2011 the Democrat Party won a sizeable percentage of the votes - 35.15 per cent (11,433,762 votes), and this included 65.89 per cent of the votes in the Southern Region.

These voters come from a wide cross-section of Thai society and hardly make up an elite as claimed by the red shirts, who insist on the myth that it is a Bangkok elite supporting the current protest movement. I would suggest that it is rather a large group of Thai citizens who are fed up with the incompetence, corruption, arrogance and high-handedness of the present government.
