Opinions don't have to constitute lies
I am a physician and have never read anything in Eric Bahrt's letters or articles that was not accurate, as Victor Meldrew (Letters, January 28) claims. Many of the studies Eric refers to have been written up in major medical journals, which I read myself. Furthermore, Eric's guest columns have been published in reputable newspapers, which I assume have fact-checkers.
To call Mr Bahrt a liar because he quotes from people with whom Mr Meldrew disagrees is disgusting and would suggest that Mr Meldrew is the one who is at fault. Perhaps Mr Meldrew could make a more constructive contribution to the letters section if he would find a cause of his own instead of demeaning others.
