Not even Prem has the magic touch

Re: "I can't broker talks: Prem", Front page, April 11.

It's distressing that Privy Council president and respected statesman Gen Prem Tinsulanonda says not even he would be able to find middle ground between PM Yingluck and anti-government-protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban.

It shows that, unlike in previous times of crisis, this time there is no magic formula to bring peace to the conflict.

During the Black May violence of 1992, the leaders of the opposing forces - prime minister Gen Suchinda Kraprayoon and protest leader Chamlong Srimuang - were summoned by His Majesty the King to put an end to the violence.

The result: the turmoil ended immediately!

Is this going to be the year of living dangerously for us Thais?
