No chance of clean elections
Re: "City election set a new low standard", Letters, March 14.
In my humble opinion, the standard can never be improved, no matter how many times Bt160 million has to be spent for another re-election. Many Thai politicians are beyond redemption.
They are not gentlemanly enough to refrain from smearing one another, especially when their future is dependent on the outcome. Abhisit's future would have been so dim for losing Bangkok, the second stronghold of the Democrats, and amnesty with the inclusion of Thaksin Shinawatra will almost become unthinkable now after Pheu Thai's loss in Bangkok. It has encouraged many to come out of the closet to state the obvious. Our Army chief has declared, in so many words, "Let's leave that man outside Thailand alone and talk about people in Thailand." How lovely and explicit! The general can say that again and again.
