Lucrative trade in forbidden fruit
Re: "The moderate wisdom of Islam", Letters, March 26.
I remember being in Malaysia during Ramadan some years ago. On entering a public toilet (early afternoon) I noticed the clear odour of "Big Mac and fries" radiating from the cubicles. Two boys were coming and going and the place was abuzz with activity. Orders were surreptitiously taken at the washbasins and in other quiet corners of the "restaurant facility". Dining was behind closed doors, at customers' convenience. On this occasion, religion brought both wealth and happiness to these two enterprising lads.
