Garuda Pancasila belongs to all Indonesians

Stephff's cartoon published by The Nation on July 24 indicates his lack of knowledge and understanding about the state of the Republic of Indonesia by depicting Indonesia's coat of arms, the Garuda Pancasila (the Five State Principles), as a symbol of the Indonesian elite. He's completely wrong.

As a matter of fact, the Garuda Pancasila represents the state ideology adhered to and highly respected by Indonesian people, from the grass roots to their leaders, including the newly elected president, Joko Widodo.
