Foreign workers should read the fine print

Re: "Push to lure foreign workers", Front page, July 1.

Let me get this straight. Thailand wants more foreign workers, so it's offering them a one-stop, 30-minute registration deal? Wow! Sounds great, until you read the fine print. This costs each worker a total of Bt1,380 in various fees, and costs each dependant an additional Bt1,080. Does Thailand think these guys are rich? To top it off, this gets them only two lousy months of near-slavery in the Land of Smiles.

That's not a lure, it's an outrage. If Thailand can't do better than that, it deserves the bad reputation it's getting in the global media.
