I hate to say this, but some foreign correspondents reporting on the political crisis in Thailand are plain ignorant of the issues.
The reason that millions came out on the streets is not because they are against elections and democracy.
Millions of Thais, including those who support and voted for the Pheu Thai party, believe Yingluck Shinawatra and her party have no legitimacy left. Yingluck and her people rejected the Constitutional Court ruling and are thus considered outlaws by the protesters.
The caretaker government should show some decency by postponing the election until Yingluck and more than 200 of her party’s MPs who are facing charges have proved their innocence in court.
At the same time, protesters want the Constitution changed for more fairness and better governance.
An election now will only whitewash the crimes that these people have committed and make them even more audacious in future.
