Don't blame the monkey

Re: "Court rules today on Bt2-tn bill", Politics, March 12.

Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana gave a typical response to the pending ruling by the Constitutional Court. "We will respect the court's decision!" (Until after it is made, presumably.)

We have done nothing wrong, added Phongthep, implying that the court had misinterpreted the Constitution. Asked if the government would take responsibility, he said something along the lines of "since we are not the government anymore, they cannot touch us".

In a way he has a point: If the music is out of tune, blame the organ grinder, not the monkey.
