Democrats did the right thing

I agree with the Democrat Party's move to have its MPs resign from the House of Representatives.

The Pheu Thai Party, in its public refusal to accept the Constitutional Court's ruling to strike down its charter amendment for an all-elected Senate, had lost its legitimacy.

By voting for the amendment draft bill, the 300-plus Pheu Thai MPs had become parliamentary outlaws.

And, as a result, a big question mark hangs over Yingluck Shinawatra's legal status as prime minister.

Hence, for the Democrats to stay on in the House would be tantamount to recognising the legitimacy of Pheu Thai and of the House as a functioning body. This legitimacy has been lost on both counts.
