Constitution favours a select few

Abhisit Vejjaiva has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Special Investigation, accusing the agency of making false charges against him and that the charges are politically motivated.

He has a right to do so, but poor Thaksin Shinawatra has no right.

Thaksin can't file suit against the coup and the Asset Scrutiny Commission because Article 309 of the coup-drafted Constitution guarantees everything the coup did is forever legal. You don't have to be a Philadelphia lawyer to know that the coup violated every law of the land. This is the only constitution in the world that is designed to protect certain people and to punish certain others.

In another 200 years Thais might scratch their heads and wonder what Article 309 was all about.
