Civil servants call for reform

The Civil Service Association on Sunday stated it was time for Thailand to undergo reform, particularly of the bureaucratic system, so that public servants can truly respond to the needs of the people, not politicians.

This a great place to start the reform - although all that is needed is for the civil service to shed its role as the servile service. It needs to be restored to the position of providing checks and balances to legislation to ensure they are democratic and legal. It must be allowed to ensure that there is transparency in government contracts and be confident that it can stop ministers from going off the rails.
