A poll rerun the only way
I read with considerable interest, and I must admit an impish sense of amusement, the latest tortuous machinations in the election debacle. The discomfiture of the Election Commission is quite simply palpable. It is beyond debate that a complete rerun is the only realistic way out of this utter shambles since, having used one royal decree, another cannot be issued under the same circumstance, according to Section 108 of the Constitution.
Moreover, trying to bluster through, as Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order chief Chalerm Yoobamrung wants, offers too many pitfalls and bear traps to be an adult choice. However, the EC, whose sole role in life is to efficiently run proper elections, is demonstrating a conspicuous lack of fortitude in grasping the nettles, and I fear the country is doomed to yet further fudge and fumble since no clear leadership is shown by anyone. The "baby" will be passed eventually and enthusiastically to the Constitutional Court to make some sort of decision.
