A convicted fugitive who jumped bail to flee abroad
Somsak Pola wants the media to explain the term "convicted fugitive" whenever Thaksin Shinawatra is referred to.
Since there are many who are still in a denial state, it is good idea to repeat the explanation of why he is appropriately coined as a "convicted fugitive" and why this also serves as a warning to the future generation of the meaning of "conflict of interest". That is, one should not allow one's spouse to buy land from a government agency while one is prime minister.
Convicted he was and fugitive he still is, since he left Thailand under the pretext of wanting to attend the Beijing Olympic Games in July 2008. He jumped bail and has yet to come back to serve out his two-year prison sentence.
Under this scenario, unfairness of the justice system is the only way left for his loyal friends to maintain. Short of that, there's also an amnesty to be granted by Parliament for all offenders inclusive of Thaksin.
So, if this is intended to save Thaksin, then I would say it is a poor try.
