New Samui hotel Ozo Chaweng offers comfort and convenience without any fuss
A modern hotel on Chaweng Beach Road and a mere 15-minuties from Samui Airport, Ozo Chaweng is designed as much for beach lovers as for club hoppers.
Those into sand and sea can get from bed to ocean in less than 10 minutes while night owls can be in the centre of Chaweng’s buzzing nightlife in about the same time.
Checking in at the Spot, as the hotel calls its lobby, is a breeze, especially for tech-savvy travellers. The paperless tablet-based check-in system is fast and also environmentally friendly. All you have to do is hand-over your passport or ID card, sign your name on the tablet and you get your key card. The average check-in time is three minutes though that doesn’t include queuing.
Guests can design their own trip around Koh Samui with the help of the information lectern, the electronic concierge at the Spot. It allows you to check the weather forecast of the day, find the best local restaurant, natural attractions around Koh Samui and popular hang out spots and doesn’t expect a tip.
“At Ozo, we don’t really have a bell-boy because we are what is known as a select service hotel. Our guests have to carry their own luggage to their rooms though if anyone needs help, they can request an Ozone Boy to give them a hand,” explains a hotel officer.
All 208 rooms and suites at Ozo Chaweng Samui are designed in modern Zen style: clean, simple and understated. The average room size is 25 square metres with even the biggest room only measuring 32sqm.
Each is equipped with flat-screen cable TV, multimedia panels and free Wi-Fi. Below the TV is a curvy small work desk attached to the wall. However, it is too small to sit down and work on a laptop so you will have a good excuse to stop working and start relaxing.
The greenish blue tile in the bathroom and the creamy white wall add a nautical touch to the room. The shower stall is generous and comes with a non-slip board, making it good for children. With Breeze Spa amenities, shower time is bliss.
The fitness room, Tone, is well equipped but limited space-wise so health fanatics would so well to work out by swimming in Splash, as the free-form salt-water pool is known.
Ozo serves a fine breakfast buffet at its all-dining restaurant, Eat. The restaurant offers a view of the pool with the blue sea as the backdrop. A pool bar is right next door and is a popular spot to sip a cool drink and watch the palms swaying in the breeze.
The rooftop terrace on top of the pool bar a great place to chill out late afternoon when the sun is not too hot. However, when the sun sets, the mosquitoes settle in, so do be warned.
Stacked is a fine choice for dinner and cocktails if you don’t want to head out. The in-house contemporary diner has a cosy atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to linger and the staff is polite and attentive.
An added bonus is that all diners in the hotel are vegetarian friendly. Just tell the food and beverage officer and your veggie preferences will be catered for.
