Stepping up security
AirAsia is adopting Interpol’s I-Checkin system as a pilot project to enhance international travel security. With the Interpol database, the new check-in system can screen the passports of all its prospective passengers against the world police body’s Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) database. Interpol, or International Criminal Police Organisation, has more than 40 million records of SLTD in the database. I-Checkin will allow the airline to query the SLTD database but not gain direct access to it. Passenger’s personal data will not be transmitted to Interpol, saving only travel document number, form of document and country code screened against SLTD.
Swimming with the sharks
Siam Ocean World introduces the newest ‘Shark Walk’ activity, offering a different dimension to viewing the largest number of various species of sharks through a gigantic acrylic floor above the water. More than 40 sharks of five different species – Tiger Shark, Leopard Shark and Blacktip Shark – for example, can be seen through a transparent acrylic floor over the large shark tank. Siam Ocean World (www.SiamOceanWorld.co.th) is located in Bangkok’s Siam Paragon shopping mall.
