Permanent Secretary for Public Health Dr Narong Sahametapat went to work on Monday as usual following a grenade attack on his Lak Si residence was attacked shortly after midnight.
Police said the M79 grenade struck the wall of his residence in Soi Chaeng Wattana Soi 14 in Lak Si district at around 12.30am. He was not in the house at the time of attacks.
The explosion caused a 1015 cm hole in the wall. A car parked inside was slightly damaged but no one was injured.
He told reporters this morning that he was fine and would work as usual. He was scheduled to leave on an official trip to Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
He declined to comment if he would ask for security personnel to ensure his safety. Dr Narong earlier welcomed antigovernment protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban to his office and accepted a golden whistle from Suthep. He is known for his stance against caretaker Yingluck Shinawatra government.
He also defied the government's Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) order by ignoring its request to attend a briefing of permanent secretaries organised by the centre.
