Office of Ombudsman drops complaints against Yingluck

The Office of Ombudsman Friday dropped two complaints against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on the grounds that there was no clear evidences that she had violated her political ethics.
Rakkecha Chaechay, the spokesman of the Office of Ombudsman, said that following discussion, the had agreed that Yingluck had done nothing wrong in skipping a House meeting to perform her duty as PM at the Four Seasons Hotel.
The ombudsmen considered that the House meeting that day was not discussing an issue that required the prime minister to address the House. Moreover, the ombudsmen saw that it was justified for the prime minister to carry out her work to solve the people’s problems, the spokesman said.
The ombudsmen also felt that there were no issue related to extramarital affairs because Yingluck went to the hotel with many persons.
The ombudsmen considered that Yingluck did not commit any conflict of interest in the project to reduce taxes for first-time home buyers. The ombudsmen noted that Yingluck had resigned as executive of SC Assets so she would not benefit from the project.
The ombudsmen said the project was carried out by the Finance Ministry and home buyers were not forced to buy houses from SC Assets, but from any real estate developers.
Rakkecha said the ombudsmen also saw that Yingluck did not violate the law against conflicts of interest by holding 0.85 per cent shares in SC Assets because the laws allowed a Cabinet member to hold up to five per cent of shares in a firm.
