I wish to give a heads-up to expats thinking of getting a Thai tourist visa in Laos: think twice before going to Savanakhet.
I went there a short time ago, and would have been rejected had I not had my bank book with me. I saw numerous people being turned away. The reason probably has something to do with the fact that the Thai tourist visa is being offered pro bono, originally until the end of February, and now until the end of August. Until now, Laos had been a relatively easy place to get a tourist visa.
But if it is going to be difficult to get the above mentioned visa here, then one should consider going elsewhere. After all, there is more to do in places such as Malaysia than there is in Laos.
