Bribery and corruption too big a problem to ignore

Bribery in the Thai business community needs to be seriously addressed, and preferably reduced if not eradicated.
The setting up of an independent panel by the National Press of Thailand (NPCT) to investigate the allegation that one of the country’s largest conglomerates may have bribed journalists for favourable coverage, demonstrates that the bribing of journalists has become too big a problem for the council to ignore. Some Thai businesspeople, from the biggest tycoons to the smallest street vendors, have involved themselves in bribery in order to make quick cash.
This has become the acceptable norm over the past few decades. The result is that the country is being dragged down in terms of societal degradation. Only by putting the big and obvious wrongdoers to harsh punishment and condemnation, will this social ill be cured. Do it now!
