Privy Council President Gen Prem Tinsulanonda Monday expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and other military leaders, noting that they had done "a great thing" for the country on May 22.
Prem spoke to Prayut when the prime minister led his Cabinet members and armed forces’ commanders-in-chief to visit Prem to wish him a happy New Year.
Prayut, the ministers and generals met Prem at his Sisao Theves residence at 9am.
Prayut told Prem that he and his Cabinet members and the generals recognised Prem’s contributions to the country and said he was a role model for others in his loyalty to His Majesty the King.
As a result, they took the chance of the New Year to thank him and wish him a very happy year ahead.
Prem said he was happy to meet Prayut and his group.
The Privy Council president said he believed that most people in the county were happy and proud to see Prayut and other military leaders seize power on May 22 to avert a catastrophe for the country..
Prem said the seizure of power on May 22 was a great act that fully repaid the debt of gratitude to the motherland.
