Thailand is now monitoring 79 people who have travelled through countries hit by the Ebola virus, Opas Karnkavinpong, deputy director general of the Disease Control Department, Public Health Ministrysaid on Wednesday.
Since June 8, 483 people who have travelled through the affected countries have entered Thailand. As of Wednesday, 404 of them have gone past the 21day incubation period, the doctor said, adding that just 79 were still be monitored. Of the 79, one is Thai and the rest are foreign.
He added that monitoring is more effective that than screening arrivals at the airports with a thermostat machine, as this could not detect fevers that might have reduced by antipyretics.
Moreover the Ebola virus is not airborne, and it is thus not necessary to monitor passengers on a flight.
